Recently, someone asked me who my all-time favorite TV character was. This was a tough one for me, as it’s a super close call between Michael Scott from The Office and Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City. After some thought I decided that Carrie pulls just ahead of Michael in this race. Not to mention, I’ve been a huge Sarah Jessica Parker fan since Girls Just want to Have Fun back in the day (And speaking of SJP, Have you checked out her line of shoes that came out last year, the SJP Collection? L.O.V.E. Each.And.Every.Pair).
Anyways, every girly girl loves Sex and the City. It was a revolutionary show when it aired. Everything about it made it amazing. It’s still amazing in my book. One thing about Carrie that always resonated with me was her love of shoes. Beautiful, fancy, expensive shoes. Carrie would rather spend money on a great pair of shoes than rent.
There was a time when I had similar priorities. My shoe collection used to be quite expansive. One year while packing up my parents’ minivan to go back to college, my dad’s eyes just about popped out of his head when he saw that I had an entire, large storage bin filled with shoes that were coming with me. I’m not sure if he was surprised by the shear amount or the ridiculousness that a college kid had so many pairs of shoes. I’m pretty sure he thought I was playing some kind of joke on him.
My shoe obsession continued throughout my 20’s, but now that I’m in my 30’s and have more adult responsibilities, and therefore a much smaller shoe budget, my collection is more modest than it used to be. I sadly cannot buy pair after pair like I used to (though I dream about it). I do still appreciate gorgeous shoes and use any excuse to buy a new pair.
Why do I love fabulous heels so much?
I believe that there is power in the things that we wear and the way they make us feel. When we’re dressed great we feel like a million bucks, which in turn affects our mood and the type of day that we have. I particularly feel this way about shoes. When I get dressed up and put on a gorgeous pair of heels, I feel confident, beautiful, and empowered. Not to mention, tall enough to speak to those around me at a party, bar, or any other social gathering. The taller, the better has always been my motto.
Shoes aren’t an accessory, they’re an essential piece of your outfit. Without the right pair of shoes, things just don’t feel completely put together.
Shoe Gal for life.
