Many of us have loved ones that don’t always make it home for the holidays. Whether they live a few hours away or all the way across the country, not coming home for the holidays can be tough. What’s one way to make their holiday season a little brighter? Why not send them a little piece of Syracuse!
Here in Syracuse we have so many amazing places to eat and drink. Many of these are favorites that are missed when our loved ones move away. Instead of sending them something they don’t really need this Christmas, send them something they’ll really appreciate, a delicious taste of home. From Dinosaur BBQ Sauce to coffee beans from Café Kubal, many Syracuse favorites ship delicious food and drink throughout the country! Not only are these gifts sure to put a smile on their face, but you’re also supporting local businesses in the process!
Below are a list of some favorites that you can send this holiday season:
These cookie baskets are beautiful and taste just as good as they look! I have sent them on many occasions even to people who live locally and they’re always exited to see these show up at their door! Every cookie is peanut free, kosher, and individually wrapped. Cookies are baked with their buttery shortbread cookie recipe and decorated with a delicious vanilla royal icing. They offer gift bouquets and gift boxes. What’s great about their bouquets is that they come already presentable as a gift! This year they are also offering Gourmet Gift Towers & Bundles. They include a variety of cookies, brownies, chocolate dipped pretzels, and decorated shortbread cookies. These also make great corporate gifts or to send to friends or family for the holidays!
Café Kubal offers a selection of their famous coffee and tea online. Select your recipients favorite roast and grind, and send it on its way! Tea and brewing accessories are also available online. Locally, you can stop in to any of their locations to pick up a Holiday themed gift card or choose from one of their 4 themed gift baskets! Baskets are customizable to fit the roast or tea flavor you prefer. These baskets are only available for purchase in store (with the exception of the Golisano location). Stock is limited, so get them before they’re gone! If stopping in, make sure to also try a cup of one of their 3 new roasts; Remix, Honduras, and Kenya!
One of the most famous restaurants in Syracuse allows you to shop for your favorite sauces and apparel online. Do you have a loved one who craves that Sensuous Slathering Sauce or Cajun Foreplay Spice Rub? Send them their favorites this holiday season! Choose a Mix and Match case of sauces, or select the ultimate ‘Pit Boss’ set which includes the famous Dinosaur BBQ cookbook, an apron or t-shirt, pint glass, hat, and choice of 2 sauces or rubs. Dinosaur gift cards are always a big hit as well. Buy them as gifts for locals or for the out of towers to enjoy next time they’re visiting Syracuse. Fun Fact: Dinosaur sends several gallons of their Sensuous Slathering Sauce to service people stationed in the Middle East every year. Now, that’s the holiday spirit!
Who doesn’t love Pastabilities’ Spicy Hot Tomato Oil? It’s amazing. There’s no other way to describe it. Their spicy sauce can be shipped in packages as small as 2, or as large as 12 for the spice lover in your life. Locally, you can stop into Pasta’s Daily Bread for holiday pies or pick up gift-wrapped 2-packs of Spicy Hot Tomato Oil available at the restaurant and bakery. This crowd pleasing sauce would make a great addition to any holiday gathering.
What’s the only thing better than pizza? Chocolate pizza! For many Central New Yorkers, the holidays are not the same without the Chocolate Pizza Company’s famous Chocolate Pizza and Peanut Butter Wings. Chocolate Pizza blends homemade English toffee with rich milk or dark chocolate and pours it into pizza pans. The pizzas are then hand decorated and topped with nuts or candies. Their Peanut Butter Wings are crisp, rippled potato chips covered in creamy peanut butter and dipped in delicious milk or dark chocolate. Either of these would also make a great hostess gift for any holiday gathering!
Send the caffeine lover in your family some apparel or a coffee gift basket from Recess. You can send individual pounds of coffee, or one of their gift boxes! They offer a small and a large option. Small gift boxes include 1 pound Austin’s or Westcott and 1 travel mug. The large includes 1 pound Austin’s, 8 oz. Almond Honduran Chocolate, and 1 travel mug OR 1 pound Westcott, 8 oz. Cashew Caramel Espresso Chocolate, and 1 travel mug, YUM! Gift boxes are also available in-store. Make sure to also stop in this holiday season to try their featured latte for December, Gingerbread, or get cozy with one of their specialty hot chocolates.
You can never go wrong with wine, and Lakeland Winery offers a delicious selection of reds and whites! I’ve already purchased some to bring to holiday parties with me. You can send your favorite people some of their favorite varieties. Shop on their website or right on their Facebook page! If you’re local, you can also stop in to make your own batch of wine! Each wine making session makes 28-30 bottles of wine. This is definitely on my to-do list! Appointments can be made right on their website.
