I HATE WALMART
Ugh, my most hated place on the face of the planet. I know many others share my pain. People HATE Walmart, yet we keep shopping there. Why? To save a few dollars and cents. Over the course of 12 months, I discovered that those dollars and cents really do add up! Like most normal, human beings I prefer Target to Walmart. Even my toddler loves Target. When I bring her to Target, the first thing she does is greet the big red balls out front. Then, the display of the Target dog, and she smiles cheerfully and points at all of the colorful posters and displays on the wall…mama’s little angel.
When I take her to Walmart….it’s a whole other story. As soon as I get her in the cart and step foot through those sliding doors, she tells me she’s ready to go home and screams like she’s possessed by Walmart demons. The only thing she doesn’t do is vomit pea soup in my face. So, you could say, we’re not fans of Walmart. Last year when I quit my job to stay home with her that meant a lot of cut backs and changes in our household. And one of the worst for me was more frequent trips to Walmart, fewer trips to Target, and skipping the convenience of buying everything at Wegmans (sigh).
My trips to Walmart used to be few and far between. Once I started going on a regular basis again, I discovered that there is one upside to shopping there, the Saving Catcher feature on the Walmart App.
If you shop at Walmart (even on occasion) and don’t have it on your phone, you need to get it! Walmart will literally give you money back (on an e-gift card) for shopping at their hell hole. If the app senses that you purchased items that were on sale (advertised) for a lower price at a different store in your area, you get the money back.
How it Works:
- Force yourself to go to Walmart
- Buy all the cheap stuff that you need
- Scan your receipt with your smart phone on the Walmart App (within 7 days)
- Wait up to 72 hours for their system to check if there were any lower prices found in your area
- That’s it! You can receive your e-gift card any time you’d like. It will get sent right to your e-mail
If you’re someone who runs from store-to-store to get certain sale items each week, you need this! Of course, there are some exclusions such as buy one get one items. The app explains the nitty gritty for you. In 12 months of using this app, I got $38.13 back. Sure, it’s not a ton of money but think of it as free stuff.
If you have to go to Walmart, make your trip worth it and get some money back!
Side Note: After doing a lot of comparing, I’ve learned that NOT everything is cheaper at Walmart. For example, I find Target to be the cheapest in-store option for buying diapers. They also frequently offer $5 gift cards if you buy 2 or 3 boxes at a time. Why not stock up? Babies and toddlers are always pooping and peeing. Also, the quality of the items at Walmart are not the best. I do not buy everything at Walmart, mostly boxed, convenience foods, condiments, toilet paper, etc. I always buy any produce or meat from my local Wegmans.
