Redemption Market: A Shopping Experience That Makes a Difference
I’m always on the lookout for unique, non-traditional items that you can’t find at just any store. I love exploring local shops, small online shops, quirky shopping websites, and any other shopping experience that catches my eye. But I really love when I come across a shop that uses their profits for good. Allow me to introduce you to Redemption Market. Redemption Market is an ethical shopping experience. You’ll find trendy, boutique items that all have an amazing story behind them. When you shop with Redemption Market, not only will you get a beautiful, high quality product, but you’ll know that your money is helping those in need around the world.
I was able to catch up with Rhonda LaBatt, Owner of Redemption Market, and she shared some great information with me about her boutique and the causes that they support.
Rhonda, can you give us a brief description of what Redemption Market stands for and the impact that making a purchase can have?
Redemption Market is an ethical fashion boutique where every purchase supports a cause! We offer stunning handbags, jewelry and home decor that is both fashion-forward and affordable. Our main focus is working with women rescued from trafficking, and making life better around the world. We all want to buy pretty things, so why not help someone out at the same time? Win win!
What was your inspiration for creating this type of shop?
This business began two years ago when we saw the need to bring these beautiful products that were being made to market in the U.S. We began working with a group from Cambodia that offers a rehabilitation program to women rescued off the street, and now have grown to partner with over a dozen different groups!
What type of items will shoppers find at Redemption Market?
Redemption Market focuses on one of a kind type items sourced from around the world. We carry traditional block-printed handbags from India, hand-carved wooden dishes from Kenya, and woven blankets from Mexico and Turkey. There are items made in the U.S, too, for a local touch. Everything is natural, organic, and sustainable.
How do you find the items that you carry on your website? What are the stories behind them?
Dealing directly with the artisans, and not having to work through distributors and “middle men,” we have the benefit of hearing the stories and seeing the faces. When Redemption Market places an order with a group, the artisans are already being paid fair wages. This is the beauty of Social Enterprise, because it also gives us the ability to offer high quality products at a lower cost to the customer. Yay!
Do you have any items that are personal favorites in your shop?
Yes! The struggle is to always remember that these items are for sale, and that I can’t just keep everything for myself! My personal favorites are the leather handbags from JOYN and the Sak Saum freedom t-shirts.
How can people get involved?
Our online shop is always open at redemptionmarket.com. If you are in the Phoenix area, visit our pop-up shop at the Phoenix Public Market on Saturday mornings. Please help us grow by sharing with a friend!
