Beauty Essentials for Busy Moms
If you’re a mom then chances are your beauty routine isn’t what it was prior to having kids. Most days you need your makeup routine to be easy, quick, and of course, last all day. Because who actually has time (or the energy) to reapply their makeup in the middle of the day? Some mornings, you might be lucky if you throw on some lipgloss. But your makeup routine doesn’t have to be time consuming or costly. I’ve got 10 beauty essentials for the busy mama that are an absolute life saver.
Some parts of your beauty routine are definitely worth a splurge. For instance, I’m a freak about my skincare, so I tend to splurge a bit more on these items. However, there are plenty of drug store beauty steals that you can incorporate into your everyday beauty routine. You’ll find a balance of splurges and steals on this list. It’s all about finding what products works for you and your budget. These beauty essentials are versatile and are a great base for any makeup routine, whether you’re going for a natural look or adding additional products for a more glam look. Every Great Makeup Routine Starts With a Good Base: SKINCARE!
If you don’t do anything else for your skin today, MOISTURIZE! I’ve tried countless moisturizers over the years. Moisturizer is really the base of any makeup routine. I have combination skin, it’s oily and sensitive, and since having kids, prone to breakouts! Needless to say, I’m picky when it comes to moisturizers. Two of my favorites are Philosophy’s Take a Deep Breath and Tarte Drink of H2O Gel Moisturizer. Both keep my skin hydrated without feeling greasy.
2. EYE CREAM
This brightening eye cream is exactly what tired moms need. I’m telling you, it will make your face appear instantly brighter, making you look much more awake than you actually feel. If you’re feeling a bit sluggish or had a long night, give this one a try. Eye creams can be expensive but they last a very long time. You only need to use a grain of rice size amount. Dab it (don’t swipe!) under your eyes, outer corners and a dab on your brow bone for an instantly brighter look.
I’ve included two eye creams on this list because eye cream is an absolute necessity and these are two of the best! Plus, not only are we busy mama, but we’re exhausted! I’ve tried a lot of eye creams, and this is definitely the best at depuffing. This under eye cream is an investment, but it’s worth it! I saw an improvement in the puffiness under my eyes after using this for a few weeks.
This foundation is so quick to apply and blends into your skin flawlessly. Swirl, tap, buff, and run out of the house. I’ve used it for 10 years. The only downside is that it’s not as long-lasting as a more full-coverage foundation. There’s a quick fix for that, just use a good setting spray. You can scoop up their limited edition jumbo size foundation for a great price right now! I also recommend their matte foundation if you have oily skin.
Concealer may be one of the most important beauty essentials for tired mamas. As you can tell by the photo below, a definite necessity for me! This concealer is a serious powerhouse. It’s full-coverage, waterproof, anti-aging, brightens, AND conceals. A little goes a LONG way, one tiny tube will last you forever! Check out this before and after photo.
These are some serious results. Trust me, it’s worth it!
5. A GOOD MASCARA
Benefit They’re Real / L’oreal Lash Paradise
If you invest in anything, invest in a good mascara! Benefit’s They’re Real won’t budge all day, no mid-afternoon raccoon eyes. It’s my all-time favorite mascara. For a more affordable option, try L’oreal Lash Paradise, waterproof. This mascara makes your lashes SO long and you can get it for just $8.99 at Target or $8.50 on Amazon.
When you’re in a rush sometimes your makeup routine involves the bare minimum, foundation and concealer. But don’t forget about your lips. Whether it’s a gloss, stick, or stain, throw on your favorite lip product. I love Clinique’s Almost Lipstick becasue it’s light, buildable, and quick to apply at a red light (sorry, not sorry). I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve run right out of the house without putting anything on the lips. Thankfully, I keep this little guy on me at all times.
Defined brows are in and if you’re not using any kind of brow product, you should be. If you don’t want to take the time to do your brows but still want them to look a little more defined, use Benefit’s Gimme Brow. It’s super quick and easy to apply! It has a teeny tiny brush like a mascara wand. Just a few swipes, and you’re done.
This one is really a no brainer! If your house is anything like mine, there’s definitely a chance that not only do you not have time to wash your hair, but your hair has traces of baby food, something sticky, or god knows what else in it. So, if you haven’t had a chance to shower, you want something that smells nice, try Dry Bar Detox Dry Shampoo. I have a few favorites but not only does that one work great, it SMELLS fantastic! Batiste Dry Shampoo is another great choice with a super great price tag! This is the best drugstore dry shampoo I’ve found, and it only costs $5.99.
9. BLOTTING PAPERS
When you’re working, or running around all day, you don’t have time to reapply your makeup to get rid of that mid-day shine. Stash some of these in your purse and pull them out after lunchtime to keep your skin looking fresh. I use the Sephora brand, but any brand will do. You can find the Up & Up Target brand for just $3.59.
When you’re so exhausted at night that even turning on the water to wash your face is a chore, you’re going to want some micellar water. It will not only remove all of your face makeup, but cleanse your face as well. All you need is a cotton ball, no rinsing required. You can keep it right in your night stand for after those long days. Garnier also makes a very affordable version that you can find just about anywhere. One of my other favorite lazy girl/tired mom products is the makeup eraser. You can read about it here, but this little guy will remove all of your makeup with JUST water.
As a busy mom, you may not think that you have time to put a mask on at night, but make the time! Treat yo ‘self and your skin! Throw one on while you’re washing dishes or watching Netflix. You can find Nugg masks right at Target. You can purchase single mask pods for $3.99 or go for the multipack. Want more mask suggestions? I’ve got a million of them! Follow me on Instagram and check out my Monday Night Masking Instastories!
PRO TIP: Don’t forget you can go into Sephora and ask for samples of ANY of these products (No Purchase necessary)!
